Preaching From Galatians

2021 A. A. Pedersen Lectureship — Featuring Dr. Thomas R. Schreiner

Tom Schreiner writes in the introduction to his commentary on Galatians:

Paul is engaged in a battle for the gospel in this letter, and his words still speak to us today. Vital issues for the Christian life are tackled in Galatians. Paul unpacks the heart of the gospel. We see the meaning and the centrality of justification by faith, which Luther rightly argued was the article by which the church stands or falls. How can a person stand before a holy God without being condemned? Paul answers that question in Galatians.1

In the 2021 Pedersen Lectureship, Dr. Thomas Schreiner will present expositions of Galatians 2:11–21 and 3:1–14. He will then give an exposition of Galatians 5:13-6:10. He says of this section in his commentary introduction:

After Paul has emphasized so strongly the believer’s freedom from the law, he wants to guard against a possible perversion or distortion of his message. Thus, he warns the congregation that freedom should not be used as an excuse for license. True freedom expresses itself in love and obedience to the Spirit.
